Yeah they are a china made affordable rocker. Sorry i am just critical of budget builds for a performance car. My Comp roller rockers were over $600 for the kit.You need to spend the money in the right places in my opinion.

Good day all, J-G, It's good to have you back, safe and sound.
Alan, I guess your day isn't going so well. Although you would hope that the engine builder would work with you, the reality is that they won't likely do anything. As you said HI PO. Motor and nobody warranty's them.

The engine builder will work with me, I don't know to what extent, but the car's owner wants nothing to do with that builder...would rather start over.

Just keep your fingers crossed that everything works out well and you are not left paying a bagful of money.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Could it be that he's concerned with his reputation, so he will eat some of the cost of the repair. If you haven't taken the engine apart, maybe it's not as bad as you think. However if the owner no longer wants anything to do with this builder, then possibly he will bite the bullet and pay for a new engine.anlauto wrote:The engine builder will work with me, I don't know to what extent, but the car's owner wants nothing to do with that builder...would rather start over.

It may be, but if the customer doesn't want to work with the builder, then that should take any responsibility off of Alan. Should Alan feel any obligation. I for one don't see where Alan did any wrong. Sounds like that engine was on its way out before he drove it.

Like i said it wouldnt of mattered who stood on it, that motor was a ticking time bomb looking to let go. And i am sure Alan didnt beat the crap out of it either. Again the faulty part broke end of story.

100%, totally agree with you, the motor was on it's way out, and no way in Hell was it Alan's fault. I believe that I understand why Alan feels the need to work with the owner. The guy is a friend of Alan's, and he has a business with an excellent reputation, that he doesn't want tarnished for any reason. However this is just my opinion and in no way reflects Alan's thoughts.

Re: Good Morning Thread
I restored the car. I chose the engine builder. It was my first time using this guy, and most definitely the last. He did come highly recommended.
This is the car: http://www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com/1971FC7383.html
We're thinking of bringing it to Active Engines $$$$$$$$$$$$$ this time around.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Here's the damage you can see. Question is how much damage did the loose valve do ?
Re: Good Morning Thread
As long as the valve didnt jam, it probably only kissed the piston? you may be lucky?

Re: Good Morning Thread
The piston will certainly have a bruise for sure. Looked at all the pictures, nice job Alan.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Takes about a year or so to turn one out....depends on how fast the money flows..
Re: Good Morning Thread
Good morning. I've had this past week off with my youngest son working on his '72 Demon track car. I have finished one fenderwell header and almost done the other, built a steering shaft, clutch linkage, engine valve train and timing and built fender frames for the trailer with my other son.
These two young men had me hopping from job to job making me dread hearing "Dad can you have a look at this".
Today is suppose to be trailer day with them knowing no more work tomorrow so I can get to paid work Monday. Part of me wants this day off too, but then my 20 something brain says lets get this done, forgetting my 56 yr old body will wake up tomorrow feeling 90.
This is the kind of week I've hoped to have with my sons so it really has been GREAT! No beaches or sun tans for this old gear head.

Good morning all, large list of things that I'd like to knock off this weekend. Most of it outside. It's good that the weather is going to cooperate. Have a good day all.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Was going to load material in for the new garage/shop but the guy I was getting a price from totally forgot about me so now I have to wait until Tues or Wed. Now we have slid back into our regular wet weather and is delaying a few things. Are some of you folks still buried in snow? My dad and his wife are heading back to Winterpeg this morning and I think they are having better weather than we are. Enjoy the weekend folks cause they are just too damn short.
