jgl360 wrote:Dan what happened to that 340...is it that modified? I remember when the 340 came out and their gas milleage was pretty good for a motor that would perform. Somewhere like 26-28 MPG.
JG, my non numbers matching 340 engine, is out of a 69, and quite modified, when built, it was bored 60 over with shaved heads, over sized valves, flat top pistons and a real lumpy cam, it's been so long that I no longer remember the cam specs. I'm also running a 780 Holley carb on a dual plane intake, 3200 stall torque and 355 Richmond gears and Auburn limited slip unit. I do have the original numbers matching engine that has been rebuilt to factory specs and may install it in the car someday to improve my gas mileage. But the car is so fun to drive the way it is now.

Re: Good Morning Thread
I understand completely cause my 360 with 350 HP is fun so yours must be even more fun! I only run a 650 cfm carb so I believe your carb is probably part of your problem...but fun just the same.
I believe I am getting around the 13mpg though.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Good evening 17 for a high today but crikey did it blow. We have a few systems arriving over the next few days so fun and games glad I have garage work to do in a garage rather than the tent I built the Dart in lol. Going to try to get to the 273 this weekend if it settles down weather wise and see if it will turn by hand. If its free turning I think thats what will go into the Valiant. I`ll put the /6 aside for the future and I have a 360 LA block I was given too, nothing wrong with a bit of inventory as long as the boss does`nt see it hiding under stuff.
Have a great night and stay safe

Dan I am 355 gears with the 408 fed by a 750 and I think I am around 8-9 miles to the gallon and like you may have some extra lead in my right foot!

Yeah Reg, somehow I feel that improving the gas mileage would take the fun out of driving it. Besides I feel like it’s a bonus, because if I ever decide to sell it’ then I’ll be able to touch a much larger market, because both engines will go with it.
It’s a lot cooler than what we have become accustomed too. We started out this morning with a high of 4 feeling like 0. and we are only supposed to hit 10 and cloudy. I guess fall has finally arrived. Have a good day and a great weekend.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Good morning 10 and rain. Tomorrow is going to be a good ol slobbernocker, a big time storm heading our way. Theres 40 containers floating around out there from a frieghter heading to Van. So ya lots of wind. Got the rear part of the fender off yesterday then the lower trunk extension then got the floor tacked in. My buddy got bored yesterday grabbed his bucket of tools and came over and he went to town on the floor, fitting and trimming and voila just need to finish welding now.
Heres a few pics. Ignore the fancy welds on the left they have not been ground yet.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Reg, you’re doing a fine job. It’s looking good. Do you guys have a provincial safety check that you have to go through, to be able to license your cars?

Yes Dan theres a inspection you need to get in order to apply for the collector plates and then its cheap ins. If you don`t want to get the collector plates then no need to have an inspection. JG i am definetly slow and steady

Re: Good Morning Thread
Good morning 11 and boy its a storm alrighty yikes. Ferry`s cancelled stuff blowing everywhere rain just alot of yuk and hopefully the freighter that was on fire right off the front of here is out. Looking good Lyle gotta love the old school drag cars! Busy weekend on the car got the trunk extension tacked in and then of course it goes sideways. I keep running into contaminated metal no matter how well I prep it which is causing burn through on the welds in places. I made a decision this morning at 3 am and I am going to panle bond the outer patch panels I just am not wanting to deal with ugly welds on those exposed pieces and chances of burn through. I will spot weld in place with panel bond surrounding the welds.
Heres a pic of the trunk extension tacked in.
Have a great day stay safe

Coming along fine keep it up. Too bad that working on old cars usually has drawbacks and discouragement but also ups to bring your mood up.

Re: Good Morning Thread
Nice warm day here considering it's late oct, was 13 for a high.
Reg the car is really coming along. In my mind it's the best part of resoring a cr, as it's very satisfying to see your progress!
I was real lucky and found a rear bumper that will work with my car and is in great shape considering it's age. The add said bumper for small Plymouth and I went to take a look and low and behold it was for my car.
Great day all

Good morning afternoon type...I don't know if I told anyone here but my son in law wants to buy my Dart when I am done with it. Timeline will depend on the health I imagine but at least I know it will stay around.

Used to watch in the later part of the seventies along with Benny Hill, Dave Allen at Large. The British had great comedy.
