Re: 68 Dart
Dan, ya know how one thing leads to another well.........
I decided to go with the Evans cooling liquid and at the price of it I decided to go with new hoses upper and lower and heater core. So having come to that decision then it became apparent that seeing as how I was going to braided eventually then might as well get that done now as well. As you can imagine all this stuff does not live in Victoria and has to be shipped. I am also waiting for new exhaust manifold bolts , on and on. We are going to install after Easter not going to rush it now but crap I want that thing running so bad!

But there comes a time when that snowball melts and you are able to see the prize inside. The thing is that we have all been there and that first roar is truly awesome. Lots of luck and may your troubles(there will be something) be minor and when you go for your first drive you will wear one of thosesmoken340 wrote:And the snow ball gets bigger and bigger. lol

Re: 68 Dart
Thanks guys and yes there is always something to do or fix. I had dinner tonight with a friend who has an amazing collection of 55 Fords and the maintenance he goes through is pretty involved just to maintain his cars. I am taking a buddy of mine for a garage tour so will get some pics you won`t believe the cars.
No this year I think I will be at the fathers day show in Qualicum and maybe the Courtney show. Next year I hope to do the Penticton peach on the beach show and the local shows. I am going to Mission with the car club on June 4th for the drags and a new t shirt. Its so damn expensive to leave the Island now I just don`t want to bother anymore.

The colour is sunfire yellow which is the factory colour. I have two rattle cans from Chrysler but am saving those for exterior touch ups. I sprayed the engine well with rattle cans a local body supply shop mixes and they used the same paint codes. I am really happy with the results.
Next up is the Hemi orange 360 block. My buddy measured the bore and what I have is 370.779 cubic inches.

Re: 68 Dart
The story behind those valve cover bolts is my buddy who is the engine builder had them in a can on a shelf and had forgotten all about them. I had ordered three times the chrome valve cover bolts and each time they came in they were header bolts rather than valve cover bolts. I had given up and was going to put stainless bolts in but the day I am painting the engine he was poking around in his shop looking for something more related to the trailer he was dewinterizing and opened a can and voila! This will cost me a few beers and some deep fried turkey this coming weekend at the campground but I am more than happy to keep him watered and fed, he has done me so many good turns its time to get some paying back done.

Wow, mine is 30 over and measures out to 365.32 so my guess is that yours is 60 over, which would be 370 range.

Mine never seen a dino but has been estimated by a bunch of people at a low of 325 and a high of 365 so my guess is in the 350 ballpark.Ragtacker wrote:Absolutely correct Jean-Guy. What kind of HP are you making?

Thats kind of the range I was thinking as well. The only question with the motor now is the cam. Its not stock and has been reground but has no numbers or anything on it so thats the wild card.

Re: 68 Dart
I am in the same boat cam wise, mine came with the ''engine rebuild kit'' which included the pistons, bearings, gaskets and high performance cam. I am like you no numbers or anything, it does not have a lumpy idle but how high perf. is it ...lord only knows, but I do have 1.6 rockers instead of the stock 1.5 rockers. This has the effect of opening the valves a bit more.Ragtacker wrote:Thats kind of the range I was thinking as well. The only question with the motor now is the cam. I have 3.55 gears going in this spring(I hope) which should help the throttle response even more but I am still looking for an 8 1/4 sure grip section. I should go part hunting in a scrap yard

Chrome is something I like too but it also means more elbow grease to keep it shiny because people who have chrome and care about it don't mind the time spent on it to keep it looking good. I changed my chrome valve covers last year to get some that I really liked but the chrome ones were super expensive so I opted for shiny aluminum ones. This winter I took them off and polished them real good....I hope, they also have rubber valve cover gaskets which permit me to remove the covers and re-use the gaskets.
I like your chrome intake and I would have one if I could have afforded it when I rebuilt the car. Back then money was sort of hard to come by and that is why my car is a budget build.

Re: 68 Dart
Getting there Dan. I am fairly happy with the braided sleeves especially the heater hoses the rad hose does not fit like a glove because of the turns and twists and is not nearly as nice as the heater hoses. Just have to finish the wiring this morning put the remote oil filter on ,fill her with Evans and turn the key. I tell ya we spent more time yesterday chucking garbage or wrong bolts than actually building but its put together right this time and thats what I wanted.
