Well.... don't shoot me but I just bought this "Mopar's red headed step child" to work on as my next project. Special thanks to Mike Kidd for driving me down to Wisconsin and tow dollying it back for me. It was a fun trip! I wanted another project as the Challenger is pretty much " done" how I want it ( other than a paint job) I always admired Mark Donohue and wanted to build a tribute car . He won the Trans Am championship with this car in 1971, a HUGE achievement beating Ford and General Motors , kind of a David vs Goliath story. Always admired the funky lines of this car. It has a 360 really wanted the 401 but couldn't be that choosy .... all in good time. Going to be a fun winter now! I'm sure the cops won't bother me huh? LOL Went to put on my rims and tires and found out someone had slipped a Chevy 10 bolt in there so the bolt pattern won't jive..... more things to do.... It's painted/lettered up like this car. Just have to build a spoiler.

I'd post pictures but can't figure out how to on this site?

I love those old Javelins, almost bought an AMX but was outbid by more than I could afford.

That seemed to work! Is there a limit to how many pictures you can post? Not sure on how this works? Is this "serving.com" like photobucket?

Got the engine installed and the T-56. I have to modify the tunnel some. Headers from ARH are set to arrive next Tuesday , then I can build the exhaust system

I found this console from a 2015 Audi A5, it fit right in with no mods or trimming! I was shocked! I chose it as it has the humped fender shape to it so I thought it would "go" with the styling of the car. I'm happy with it! E-Body pistol grip shifter arm bolted right up to the stock T-56 shifter stub! Also using stock boot from an E-Body as well.

Coil overs installed, This had to be the easiest car to install coil overs. Just turned down the original spring saddle mounting shaft and your done.  Speedhut custom gauges designed my me all ready to be installed. Screw in Dodge ball joints used in both upper and lowers. Test fitting some parts on the engine

Installed a rack . I had it from a previous project so I thought I'd use it in the Javelin. Had to source AMC Pacer steering arms to make it work. They were not easy to find, but thank goodness for the internet, found a pair in Arizona.

Wow looking real good Brad! I like the way you have the rack mounted.

Does that steering help out with bump steer?

Not sure on bump steer yet, I haven't checked yet. Rack is from Flaming River. I can adjust the height easy enough by milling down the rack pedestals if required. Or drill new holes to mount it forward or backwards  The Pacer used a rack and the steering arms from it bolt right onto the Javelin spindles.
I spent lots of hours figuring out Bump steer on the Challenger one winter. At some point I'll do the same with the Javelin.  Tried lots of different parts till I got a combo I was happy with. If your interested I did a post about it here..

Some pictures of the fuel cell being built. I took some " flack " from some in the AMC crowd for cutting out a perfectly good trunk floor but at the time no one was making new fuel tanks for these cars. I watched people pay $350 USD for tanks that had rot holes in them. No way I was playing that game! Besides I figure the fuel cell goes with the race theme and is much safer than the stock set up, and at 32 gallons I can almost drive to Carlisle on one tank! No stops! LOL Oh the paint, is tremclad reducer and hardener, cost me $11 bucks to paint the trunk and engine bay! LOL Easy to touch up if needed too.

A good buddy locally has a 71 Hemi Cuda clone and for some reason he wanted to go back to the original rear end , so I bought the Strange Dana 60, as it bolted right in with zero mods. Spring perches lined right up . Dana was built to B-Body specs for an E-Body to use larger rims . I have the exact same rear end in the Challenger. If you have ever seen the stock AMC rear end , what a fiasco , double splined with a hub held on with a big woodruff key. No thanks! I had one in the parts car and sold it off. Those stock AMC rear ends are a disaster waiting to happen IMO. I'll never break the Dana!
This rear end has 3:73 and I figure I'll need to swap in 4:30 to better utilize the T-56 overdrives. But that can wait for another time. Get it on the road first! When I swapped out the drums for disc's on the Challenger I kept the drums. Glad I did because they are now being used on the Javelin/Dana . Reduce, reuse , recycle! LOL   I also installed brand new leaf springs when the Dana went in.

Engine bay wire wheeled , primed, then painted with the aforementioned Tremclad $11 dollars worth of paint. Painted Nov 2020  This was my first time painting anything. Came out alright for a rookie I figured! Never be afraid to try new things!

It's looking real good. Yea I painted my last 2 cars in the garage, might not be the best job but I did it myself.

Hey Brad, you're doing one hell of a job. But won't 32 gallons of gas be a lot of weight on the rear springs ?
