Mild 340 timing
I have a 340 in my 69 Dart , Comp Cams 270 extreme cam, Edelbrock Air Gap, stock single point dist , X heads polished a bit. Seems to pop back here & there unless I ease into the gas. I'm thinking timing. What would the ideal timing be on this as it is? Thoughts? Thanks!

Larry, I think you should head down to your friendly Dodge dealer and order up a electronic ignition conversion kit and get that installed first then start tuning. Might want to get the distributor curve kit springs as well.

Or even better, buy a pertronix distributor.

No external box, adjustable avance curve, rev limiter.

And then, maybe, get the pumpshot dialed in and then maybe slow down the secondary opening .Or maybe slow down the secondary first......

I'd thought about that - know of any problems? Reliable? ( I like road trips!) I've got an MSD "ready to run" in my '40 Ford (SBC) and no box required and it's great. Don't know why their ( MSD) dist for 340 needs a box.

Re: Mild 340 timing
I heard lots of good reviews from guys who had them, the only bad thing I heard was when people bought the cheap Chinese imitation off e-bay. Most of the info comes from FABO(for A-bodies only).
"Don't know why their ( MSD) dist for 340 needs a box." Because Mopars are different-special.

reliability and points shouldn't be used in the same sentence go with the electronic either one is 100 times better than what you have .
