CLR, is just a watered down version of LYE. Baking soda and vinegar is even better than CLR.

Lye is probably cheaper then CLR, as well.

The Lye did produce some results, however its still fairly grungy inside...so to be safe ill send it out for re-core....I did notice the weeping plug under the water pump was missing and there is evidence that the pump is also in need of replacement...All in all not such a big deal..

Re: 71 Newport..it begins...
New carpets arrived and the seats are being rebuilt this week...In preparation for the interior install, I figured, hey lets install a new stereo....easy peasy right???? HA...the rear 6 x9 mounts are almost 6x9, but that was a fairly simple work around....the dash on the other hand decided to give me some grief and lesson learned when working on 40 plus year old plastic....it cracks...without warning.....sooooooo I decided to take a break and reconvene in the morning after a little more research...." />

Re: 71 Newport..it begins...
A brief update....While on business in Edmonton I stopped in to check on the seats, I must admit I was really nervous and wasnt sure what to expect. I have been Emailing and calling with my ideas however until you see the actual work in progress its alot of fingers crossed and hoping for the best. My initial shop I had sent them to decided to up the price of the quote by over 100%....so after I regrouped and figured out some options I found another shop who agreed to complete the job at over 1000 less then the original. Given such a huge discrepancy I was worried the quality of the job would suffer...however I figured anything would be better then the seats as they were and it had to be better then a blanket tossed over them...so I agreed....I am beyond satisfied with the work to date and the material they have used is leathery soft, durable and guaranteed...the craftsmanship is top notch and the seamstress takes his craft seriously...[img][/img]

Also managed to reuse the decorative large decorative clips in the seat centers.

They did a fine job, now all you have to do is put it all together. How is the rest coming along? What else needs to be done?

Re: 71 Newport..it begins...
So a brief update, tonight after the carpets had settled into place..all the stereo wires were run..the interior went back in....the pictures are not great as the lighting in the garage isnt to good. Hopefully if the weather permits I can pull her into the daylight and get some better shots.
Im planning a more through update with the engine improvements as well as drive train...the body and paint..are next on the "to do" list

The pictures aren't that bad, progress is the main issue. Looks like you are doing great! Keep it up!
