Thermostat housing
I need a thermostat housing for my 72 Duster 340. Can't seem to get the one on the car to seal properly.

Re: Thermostat housing
Did you try to sand the one you already have. Just lay a sheet of sandpaper on a flat floor(like 120 grit then 300 and maybe a third one...like 5-600). When sanded flat you can even prime or paint it as long as there are no runs or even re-sand and then when you put it back together make sure you use a good gasket and maybe even a light coat of RTV.
If you are determined on getting another one, I think those are the bigger opening ones like the old style Mopars like the 1968 small blocks.

Good luck with witch ever way you decide to go.
the darn thing is that if you get another one, scrap yards are almost the only place you'll find something and you'll usually finish by having to sand it flat too.

Re: Thermostat housing
The previous owner put a chrome one on the aluminum intake. I don't care to much for the chrome, so If I can find a used factory one then that's the way that I'll go. Probably going to wind up buying one off of ebay.

Re: Thermostat housing
I might have one here also, a bit closer to home. I'll have a look this afternoon.
The one thing about the chrome aftermarket housing, it has a much thicker flange than the OEM housing, usually seals better.

Found a housing, it's off a '68 340, it'll require a clean up and paint.
It should be the same for a '72 340, I believe, part no. 2780 970.
It is pitted under the hose area, but not deep enough to seep.
Now, how do I get it to you?
Giles

Arm and a leg is the going price, but free is my price. Yes, I'm 5 miles from New Hamburg.
I can't imagine that mailing it would be more then $5.

If the one Giles sends you doesn't work out, get in touch with me. I found one in my garage.

You still get up as early as before, don`t you? At least I get to sleep at night now rather than work.
