Vinyl top removal
Has anyone removed a vinyl top and gone to painting the roof the same color as the car ? I'm not wild on vinyl tops and am thinking about this . What problems can I count on? Thoughts?

Ive done this. Roof prep is the big part. getting rid of all the glue residue. there is a high probability of rust under that vinyl. If you are not painting the whole car paint match may be an issue.

I've also done this and like Mike said, RUST is usually an issue. Maybe consider painting the roof a different color than the car itself, to give the appearance of vinyl.

The vinyl top was put on just before I got the car and was told the roof was good with no rust. I just prefer the look of all one color cars. Thanks tho !

If there is no rust, then your biggest issue will be removing the glue. Try using a hair dryer and a plastic scraper, because a metal on will dig into the metal. Once clean, you will have to give the roof a good finish, because when the factory installed vinyl, they weren't concerned with a good finish. Just pack your patience, because you'll need it.

Thanks a bunch! Yeah I can imagine the "patience" part! I think my main concern is the paint shop matching the Y2 yellow .

A good paint shop, should be able to match the colour. However they will have to make their own paint because the Y2 on the car will probably be faded. Good luck

The paint match wont be bad on your car its not faded much. Mine ia a repaint before me and when I had the new hood done they took the body shop camera to the pic and wound up removing half the red oxide to get close then tweaked it from there
