Northern Hello (Yellowknife NWT)
I just picked up a 71 Newport, its a local car with only 51,000 miles on the clock. Not a surprise when you consider the weather in the north slows rust to a crawl and since there are no places to dispose of cars, they kind of collect all over the place. This one is nothing special its a 2 barrel 383 with the basics...it runs very well and other then what I wold expect from a car this old shows reasonably well. This is my first attempt to resurrect this vintage of vehicle and my first classic mopar. Any tips or ideas are welcomes, thanks everyone.

Welcome to the site. Post some pictures if you get a chance. What are your plans for the car, a complete restoration or just a dependable daily driver ?

I don't see a full restoration, just some touch ups...bring it back to reliable, with some tasteful upgrades. Once i figure how to post some pics I will

Sometimes the best idea is a daily driver, the your not afraid to drive it. If you have any problems posting pictures you can email them to me and I'll post them for you.

That car is surprisingly rust free too.

Re: Northern Hello (Yellowknife NWT)
There are quite a few examples of older cars around town, many are simply parked as there is no formal way to dispose of them. So its not unusual to see the typical daily grocery getter from the 70s and 8-s parked behind someones house or stored in the industrial area of town. Add to that the low humidity and dry environment up here and stuff rusts at a much slower rate...no salt on the road helps as well. Although not particularly a collectors car, the Newport is a good example and although back in the day was a dime a dozen, today it stands out at show n shines between the rows of cud's, chargers and challengers.
