Hello from Ireland

Post by P O'Lara on Sun Mar 22, 2015 2:42 pm

I'm in Ireland where I'm restoring a '64 Polara 4-door sedan, Right Hand Drive, 318 wideblock 3sp.auto. I bought it in London Eng. 14 years ago
and started restoring it 3 years ago. After a bad start with an unscrupulous 'pretend' bodyman I moved shops last October and about 300 shop hours later my cars' shell should see a coat of Anniversary Gold on Monday. There is only 1 dedicated All-American car show in Ireland which is on April 26th in Kilbeggan, County Meath and I'm hoping to be running by then, barring unforeseen difficulties of which there will be many.

I didn't know when I bought the car but the Export models were apparently made in Windsor Ontario to go to England, Australia, N.Z. and S.Africa. The Canadian connection suits me just fine as, although I was born in England, I was brought to Toronto at 6 months, moved to B.C.
at 8 yrs. and back to England aged 12 so Canada is where I got my love of these cars. I have an uncle and cousins in Waterloo whom I visit and have been to Moparfest and got parts from National MO-PARTS.

My main interest is finding out how many of these cars were made in Windsor. I have read that they weren't too precise about keeping records
but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any ideas on the subject, I have no history on the car other than a few MOT certs to previous owners I can't trace. I'll post pictures when I figure it out.

Thanks from P O'Lara

Welcome. Not sure about the production numbers on your Polara, but it would be neat to see a wrong-hand drive 64! As for posting pics here is a good link..

Just upload a pic and copy the IMG code and paste it.

Welcome from Mitchell, ON. It's east of Dublin and south of Listowel, lol. I've been to Ireland twice, love the country. Traced my ancestors back to a farm in County Limerick. Returning again in 2016.

When I was over there in 2012 I noticed Listowel, Dublin and a good few others, maybe we could meet up when you're over, if it's show season
you might get to one, maybe one of those rustic and rural ones involving Massey-Fergusons, steam engines, butter-churning, Morris Minors, and the worst coffee and burgers known to man !

Plan on being there the first week of July, 2016. We are having a "gathering of the clan" at the farm. It's on the edge of Ballyhahill, Count Limerick. Where do you live?

Daytona 71, you won't see Mopars or any other classics on the road over here other than when there's a show on.

I've tried following the instructions to upload photo's but can't get the 'copy' thing to work.
I have an album on photobucket under DODGE POLARA RESTORATION.

Welcome aboard, I tried going to photobucket and look at Dodge Polara Restoration, and I came up with a 71 Dodge Polara 4 door, green in color. Is that you ?

Thanks for putting those up, I use a Mac laptop (2008, vintage in computer terms) and can manage most things but control/c wouldn't get me a 'copy' option. I'll get it eventually.

I think I said a bit about the car in my initial intro, but the resto was started 3 years ago and like so many the 'known' rust- 1/4's front+rear, rear arches, bottom door corners,
bubbles at the corners of both 'screens, turned out to be the 'tip' particularly the front cowl both sides which was a real rat's nest of rust plus some on the passenger side firewall. Fortunately the underneath was good and there were just a couple of patches needed on the front floor. The fenders, doors, hood and trunk should be done on Monday
and we're pushing to have it ready for road on April 26 which is the date of the ONLY
All American (or Canadian, Aussie, Kiwi or S.African) car show in Ireland. However anything could crop up to prevent this during re-assembly as it's being finished in a different shop to where it started and hasn't run in 3 years, so I won't be too disappointed if I don't make that date as I'm so delighted about the work that's been done by Mark the Polish bodyman at Gerry Lyons' garage, seeing paint on it is just incredible for me.
On that subject I'd just like to ask anyone, does this look like Anniversary Gold as you know it because I thought it was that colour before resto and it was a brighter, greener gold. I love the colour anyways but does anyone know if it's 'accurate'

Thanks from P O'Lara
